Stuttgart barman wins competition with quince drink

The cultivated fruit quince is back in trend: The Stuttgart barman Tobias Lindner has won a cocktail competition with his drink, which contains, among other things, quince brandy and caraway.

Elmau – The barman Tobias Lindner from the Stuttgart trendy bar “Jigger & Spoon” won a competition organized by the bar culture magazine “Mixology”.

The 34-year-old convinced the jury of the cocktail competition with his drink called “The Golden Apple”, which, among other things, consists of quince schnapps, caraway seeds and lemon liqueur, as announced by the organizers. The name of the drink pays tribute to the cultivated fruit quince, which in the past was often referred to as the “golden apple” and is back in trend.

Second place in the “Made in GSA” competition in the luxury hotel Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps went to Göttingen on Wednesday: bartender Robin Lühert created a kind of Black Forest cake to drink with ingredients such as cherry brandy, vermouth, maraschino and chocolate liqueur. Third place went to bartender Laura Driftmann from the Berlin Orania Hotel. She convinced with her “caraway turmoil” made from gilka, gin, quince brandy, quince nectar and Avaa Verjus.

The motto of the competition was “Home in a glass”. This time the jury consisted of the cocktail experts Marie Rausch from Münster (“Rotkehlchen”), Gerhard Tsai from Vienna (“Door 7”) and Thomas Huhn (bar in the Basel Grand Hotel “Les Trois Rois”).

The “Made in GSA” competition promotes regional bar products from Germany, Austria and Switzerland – GSA stands for Germany, Switzerland, Austria. It is considered the largest cross-brand cocktail competition in German-speaking countries. dpa
