Take your pulse looking in the mirror

pulso-espejo A student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has developed an application with a low-resolution webcam that, integrated into a mirror , allows you to know how fast your heart is beating in real time . Ming-Zher Poh, who has had the collaboration of MIT Media Laboratory professor Rosalind Picard, uses facial brightness recognition techniques to determine the blood flow in the blood vessels of the face and thus deduce the pulse or heart rate , one of the basic vital signs.

Poh has shown that the system, which displays the number of pulses in the lower part of the mirror, works even if three people are looking at each other simultaneously . Now he intends to perfect his invention by adding other parameters, such as the number of breaths per minute and the level of oxygen in the blood, which he will also detect remotely.
