Telgen, the new Virtual Mobile Operator (MVNO) that entered the market at the end of 2021, wants to become the fourth telecommunications concessionaire in Mexico and bases its strategy on the concession it has to develop infrastructure for 30 years issued by the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) and the experience of its managers in the sector.
The company of Monterrey origin began its operation in Nuevo León as an MVNO to offer mobile telephone and internet services through the Altán Redes infrastructure. However, Antonio De Nigris Sada, Telgen’s executive director of operations, explained that the Red Compartida will be a complement, since with it it will offer mobile services, while with its own infrastructure it will provide internet and fixed telephony for homes and SMEs.
“We are going to reach places that are not yet connected and that need this demand,” explained De Nigris Sada.
In accordance with the concession granted by the IFT to Telgel, the company will be able to use fiber optics, as well as free spectrum in the 5 GHz frequency band, to provide internet service in the towns of General Zuazua, Carrizalejo and Santa Elena , in the Municipality of General Zuazua, Nuevo León. In addition, you can provide your services in entities such as San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Yucatán, Mexico City, Jalisco, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Sonora, Puebla, Coahuila, Querétaro, Chiapas, San Luis Potosí and Chiapas.

Without specifying the investment amount, De Nigris de Sada commented that by 2022, Telgen plans to start operations in the State of Mexico and in the CDMX and pay up to 50 thousand users.
Regarding its executives, he mentioned that the experience they have, some from Axtel, will drive Telgen to have adequate customer service, since the pandemic revealed the need to improve communication channels with users due to the increase in problems in services connectivity
He is confident that Altán Redes will not break
The Telgen executive, now a partner of Altán Redes, trusts that the company led by Salvador Álvarez will not stop operating, given the financial situation he is facing and which led to filing for bankruptcy last year.
“We doubt that Altán Redes will go bankrupt or that it will go out of operations because in the end it is a network that is subsidized by the government and that is finally protected. It’s more of a financial situation that the current dealers have ”, he commented.
If the company in charge of the deployment of the Red Compartida were to fail, he pointed out, it would be a failure for the country and would have serious consequences, since according to Altán it currently houses 112 Mobile Virtual Operators (MVNOs).
“If it were to happen (its bankruptcy) it would be a failure for the country and with serious consequences because many operators are in that network providing services and that they would look bad with users. Fortunately, we as dealers are not 100% dependent on that network. If at any given time there was a problem, we would have the option of arriving from another side through our network, an option that other operators do not have, “he said.
