Telmex assures that it will not raise the prices of its internet service during 2022

Telmex, a subsidiary company of América Móvil, assured users that it will not increase its connectivity services to help reduce the inflationary pressure affecting Mexico.

In the first half of April, the price index reached 7.72%, a level not seen since 2001 and, according to the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), inflation will hardly return to levels below 3% before 2024.

While the government has already begun talks with several companies to mitigate the impact of inflation, Carlos Slim's company has decided to continue down the same path.

"Telmex informs its clients and the population in general that there will be no increase in the prices of its services," the company said in a statement.

Telmex serves 21.3 million users, of which 10.1 million correspond to broadband and 11.2 million to fixed lines. During the first three months of the year Telmex invested 1,393 million pesos to improve the transport network and improve the access network, according to data from its latest quarterly report.

Other telecommunications companies, such as Totalplay and Megacable, increased the prices of their services in March in order to recover the investments made to deploy fiber optics amid the high demand for internet services that arose from the pandemic. Another of the arguments for rate changes is due to the increase in gigabytes that they add to their packages.

Megacable arguing increases in its operating costs, such as electricity, and investments to expand its infrastructure.
