The apps that will stop working on these mobiles from September

It is time to leave behind the devices considered “obsolete”, this is what companies like Apple or Google think that, in order to focus on technological evolution , the oldest versions of mobile phones are no longer supported.

Older phones require users to sign in with a Google account, and some even restricted the use of calling emergency numbers before they were properly configured. This could change soon, as Google, among others, wants to disable access for security reasons, essentially removing older devices … completely.

These mobiles will not be able to access the most popular functions of Google, such as YouTube, Google Maps or Gmail.

What will happen?

Older versions of Android users will get an error if they try to change their Google account password which logs out users on all devices and tries to log in again.

According to the 9To5Google website, Google indicated that “logging into the account will no longer be supported in Google applications”; a measure that will affect Android 1.0, 1.1 (no name), 1.5 Cupcake, 1.6 Donut, 2.0 Eclair, 2.2 Froyo and 2.3 Gingerbread. Version 2.3.7 was released in September 2011. Considering the age of the versions, it may affect only a very small percentage of users.

Android 3.0 Honeycomb or higher will be required to “continue to use Google applications on these phones”. The measure will apply from September 27, 2021. The options are to change phones or use an account from a web browser to continue using Google applications and services.
