Afternoon tea should be luxurious and elegant, and that’s what you get at Claridge’s. Enjoy soft live music and award-winning afternoon tea with cakes and flavors, light crisp scones and rich clotted cream. Oh, and as much tea as you can drink. I would go back again just for the delicious Marco Polo tea infused jelly (jam).

The Palm Court at The Langham London is considered to be the birthplace of the afternoon tea tradition. The hotel underwent a complete but comprehensive renovation and reminds you of the time the hotel first opened in 1865. This is when Victorian society came together to enjoy the indulgent splendors offered by The Langham.

Brown’s was the first hotel to open in London, so the English Tea Room at Brown’s Hotel is steeped in history. It is a wonderful place to enjoy the English tradition of afternoon tea. It’s not stuffy, but it’s certainly sophisticated. The baby grand piano playing soft music makes you feel relaxed and majestic, and I found the staff attentive but not intrusive.

It was Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, who in the late 18th century had the brilliant idea of asking her butler to bring her a light meal in the middle of the afternoon. The Park Room at Grosvenor House Hotel has named their tea in his honor. ‘Anna’s Tea’ is as distinguished as its creator and features a selection of 17 tea blends from around the world.

They don’t keep winning awards for nothing, this place is great! I would definitely recommend afternoon tea at The Lanesborough. It is a wonderfully relaxed dining experience where you will be treated extremely well. A true ‘must do’ for any visit to London.

Having afternoon tea on The Promenade at The Dorchester has been a tradition for over 75 years and the phrase still conjures up sumptuous images of well-mannered staff, a delightfully luxurious setting, beautifully prepared delicacies, and fine teas served in delicate porcelain cups. China.
