The best drivers of the 2022 F1 season according to F1

It is almost one of the most awaited moments by the fans each week of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, that of the publication of the category itself on its website and its social networks of the “notes” of each race.

They are evaluations of the pilots who always give a lot to talk about among the fans, who never please everyone and who, in general, do not usually satisfy anyone. Formula 1, with a panel of five judges, gives each driver a score from 0 to 10 after each grand prix, leaving aside the car he is driving.

With that score of the five, an average is made and a top 10 of the grand prize in question is ordered and published. And after nine races of the 2022 season, this is how the Formula 1 Power Rankings go:

  1. Max Verstappen: 8.9
  2. Charles Leclerc: 8.7
  3. George Russell: 8.3

  4. Lando Norris: 7.7

  5. Sergio Perez: 7.7
  6. Lewis Hamilton: 7.5
  7. Valtteri Bottas: 7.4

  8. Alexander Albon: 7.3

  9. Fernando Alonso: 7.3

  10. Kevin Magnussen: 7.2

As in the real drivers’ world championship, the fight for first place in this ranking is practically a matter of two.

Although it was difficult for him to reach that position (he used to be second in this ranking) the leader in this particular F1 championship is the same as the world championship, a Max Verstappen who, as happened in the drivers’ classification, was approaching Leclerc until he overtook him after this Canadian GP in which he was the best rated.

This made Charles Leclerc fall to second position, the Ferrari driver who began leading the drivers’ world championship and this Power Ranking that after a reliability problem in the Spanish GP, a strategy error and race reading in Monaco and having to come back in Montreal due to a penalty, has fallen to second place, two tenths behind the 2021 champion.

Curiously, none of his teammates is in third position, and in fact Carlos Sainz does not even appear in the top 10, where drivers from up to eight teams do sneak in (with the exception of Aston Martin and AlphaTauri, each team has a representative) .

The podium for the moment is completed by George Russell, who shines in his first season at Mercedes despite the problems of the W13 . The Englishman is already less than five tenths behind the second, and therefore closer to the first two places than to his pursuers.

And it is that in fourth place Sergio Pérez, chosen the best driver of the Monaco race (which he won, but without being able to add much in Canada), and Lando Norris, also gray in the last race, would tie. The evaluations of the McLaren driver are often out of tune, and suggest the favoritism of F1 towards the British, as an example of this, he is the fourth best valued in the world.

For his part, the ‘preferred’ by F1 in other types of voting, Lewis Hamilton, is improving and is already in sixth position, after securing the second best score in Canada, the score he reached in the Azerbaijan GP. Hamilton already surpasses his former teammate Valtteri Bottas after taking no less than one point from him in the last valued race.

For his part, Alex Albon , with Williams, has seen how with a great performance in Canada he is already equal to Fernando Alonso, with whom he shares tenth place, and both are only 0.1 behind Bottas. F1 values the Asturian from Alpine despite the bad luck he has had at the beginning of the course, and in fact his teammate Esteban Ocon does not appear in the top 10 due to a great difference in points in the world championship.

Closing the top 10, as tenth, is Kevin Magnussen, as the best representative of Haas. Probably the two races he missed due to COVID-19 were key to Sebastian Vettel not appearing in the top ten, and Pierre Gasly, who has not had his best start to the year either, is another big absence.
