The best Google Home smart assistant isn't from Google, it's from Lenovo

I saw it back in February 2018, at the Lenovo booth at the Mobile World Congress. A screen, or rather two models with screens of two sizes, which were cool for their design and quality, and which also integrated the ‘intelligence’ for the Google home, Google Home. At that time it was presented because it was going to be launched in the United States. Almost a year and a half later it has arrived in Spain. They have had to work hard from Google and from Lenovo so that this device understands and speaks the Spanish language and services and ‘skills’ can be integrated so that the user can take advantage of it. My conclusion, after having it for a few days, is that in addition to being the best smart assistant with a screen on the market, it is the best with Google Assistant.

Lenovo Smart Display, that’s the name of the device, and with Google Assistant, it allows you to use technology at home in a more comfortable, intuitive and easy-to-share way. Users will also be able to turn it into a control center for their connected smart devices at home, from lighting to heating, and even more so, control it by voice or touch. Use Google Assistant to show the user directions on Google Maps, watch videos on YouTube, make videoconferences through Google Duo, listen to music, … Lenovo Smart Display is available with two screens, one 8-inch and the other 10-inch full HD , and both equipped with the Qualcomm Home Hub platform.

The Qualcomm Home Hub Platform is based on the Qualcomm SDA 624 SoC, which features integrated CPU, GPU and DSP, as well as robust Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity to assist the user at home. For example in the kitchen, preparing a new dish for dinner. Simply ask the Google Assistant on the Lenovo Smart Display to show a recipe video tutorial on YouTube, which will be displayed in Full HD quality and a built-in 10-watt speaker.

With Lenovo Smart Display and Google Home you can also control and manage your connected smart home devices, including those from Nest and other manufacturers, from lighting to heating, all with just your voice or a touch. The equipment also has the typical mute button to silence the sound, and also with a tab to be able to hide the camera, 5 megapixels, in case the user so decides.

The Lenovo Smart Display can change its position from portrait mode to landscape mode, so that the whole family can fit in the frame when, for example, making video calls with Google Duo, an application available on Android and iOS phones. When not in use, the screen doubles as a digital picture frame, displaying images from a selected album in Google Photos or any other selected image.

The price? Or rather, the prices? The 10-inch Lenovo Smart Display costs € 239.99, and the 8-inch model € 179.99, and both are available from June 26.
