Alberto Baillères, one of the longest-serving Mexican businessmen in the country, . Before the news, other businessmen, bankers and politicians have shared their condolences through social networks.

The news about his death was confirmed by a granddaughter of the businessman and two more relatives. Sources close to the family also reported that there would be no funeral due to the health situation resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The businessman was 90 years old and since last year he had left his companies, which include GNP, Peñoles and Palacio de Hierro, in the hands of his son Alejandro.

Antonio del Valle Perochena, owner of Mexichem and president of the Mexican Business Council (CMN) was one of the first to fire his friend.

Emilio Azcárraga also said goodbye to his mentor.

The Business Coordinating Council also sent its condolences.

Entrepreneurs from the banking sector also expressed their condolences for the death of the former honorary president for life of Grupo Bal, including the president of the Association of Banks of Mexico.

Academic institutions, such as ITAM, closely linked to the businessman, also joined the condolences.

The former president of Mexico, Felipe Calderón, lamented the death of the president of Palacio de Hierro, and sent his condolences to the businessman’s family.

“It is with deep regret that I learn of the death of Don Alberto Baillères. My deepest condolences to his wife, he said and grandchildren. A hug to those who participated in one way or another in his many works, especially teachers, students and former students of ITAM. Rest in peace”; the former president wrote on his Twitter account.

The PAN deputy Margarita Zavala, like her husband, also lamented the death of Baillères. “We say goodbye to this good Mexican with gratitude for his legacy. A hug to his wife and his family”.

The Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, sent his condolences to the family and friends of the businessman. “I regret the death of Alberto Baillères, a prominent Mexican businessman,” the foreign minister wrote on his Twitter account.

Senator for Morena Ricardo Monreal said that Baillères “contributed, without a doubt, to the progress of Mexico.

The federal deputy for the PAN and former Secretary of the Interior, Santiago Creel, sent his solidarity to the family and friends of the businessman.

Former Treasury Secretary Ernesto Cordero noted that Baillères was a “great Mexican.”
