The Colombian Opera celebrates its 45 years

The institution will carry out several activities, among which it will share its most important productions with the public for free in a special broadcast by Capital on Monday, May 17 at 9:00 p.m.

This year the Colombian Opera celebrates 45 years working for the national lyrical art. This work has been consolidated in recent decades thanks to the hard work of the Camarín del Carmen Foundation, which has now been in existence for three decades.

This private non-profit entity has been the showcase of more than 150 Colombian singers who have had successful international careers and who will be among the many artists invited to take part year after year of the Opera Season. In addition, the Colombian Opera Choir has been formed, which has stood out as one of the most outstanding in the Latin American scene.

As part of the commemoration of its 45 years, the Colombian Opera also wanted to remember that, thanks to the vision and work of Gloria Zea , it has positioned itself as the great lyrical platform of the country and has made it possible to perform nearly 47 productions and 840 performances, which will remain forever in the memory of the country.

“The Colombian Opera today is at the highest level of production in America. Proof of this are the more than 15 years of export activity, in which more than 25 productions have been added to different countries, including Canada, Mexico, the United States, Spain, Brazil, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela ”, assures René Coronado Velandia, general director of the Camarín del Carmen Foundation and the Colombian Opera .

To celebrate, he has decided to have several activities dedicated to exalting the lyrical genre. Faced with the challenges imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 Opera Season will share its most important productions with the public for free in special broadcast by Capital. All Colombians will be able to enjoy them through their screens in the Cultura en Casa strip, during six holidays, at 9:00 pm

The grand opening will begin on Monday, May 17, with the Colombian Opera Gala . This concert brings together five outstanding Colombian lyrical singers: the tenor César Gutiérrez, the mezzo-soprano Paola Leguizamón, the sopranos Karolyn Rosero and Ana María Ruge and the baritone Juan David González, accompanied by the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Andrés Felipe Jaime, assistant musical director of the orchestra.

They will offer a repertoire with opera arias, including pages by Rossini, Verdi, Massenet, Puccini, Delibes, Cilea and Mozart. Later, other great productions will be broadcast: The Knight of the Rose , by Strauss, and Madama Butterfly .

“For Capital, broadcasting these operas means bringing works of a great artistic, narrative and technical display to our audiences, and consolidating in the best way the content offer of Cultura en Casa , a strip created in the confinement of 2020. Thanks to this common effort , on holidays from May to August it will be possible to sit in the front row and enjoy the very high Colombian operatic talent ”, says Luis Carlos Urrutia Parra, Capital’s programming coordinator.
