0

The General Directorate of Traffic has been informing citizens for weeks on how to take the coming summer as calm as possible when traveling. It is going to be a time of many trips after the summer of 2020 was marked by some mobility restrictions. The DGT points out that motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are the most vulnerable when it comes to being injured in an accident, so from their official social networks they comment on some recommendations and data of interest to citizens.

Dangerous sections for motorcyclists

According to data published by the OECD’s Safer City Global Benchmarking for Urban Road Safety, motorists have a 17 times greater risk of dying in an accident than a person traveling in a car.

For this reason, the DGT wants to be very attentive to the displacements this summer by motorcycles. To do this, it has made available to the user the points in Spain where there have been the most fatal motorcycle accidents in recent years.

For example, according to this list that can be consulted on the website of the General Directorate of Traffic, Santa Cruz de Tenerife has 20 very dangerous sections for motorcyclists, where fatalities have occurred.

It is followed by cities such as Las Palmas with 10 sections; Malaga with 9 sections; Alicante with 7 sections; o Valencia with 8 dangerous sections on all its roads.

These 100 sections spread throughout the Spanish geography, of about 2 kilometers, will be marked from the beginning of the section to the end as a “Warning to motorists” in yellow.

Surveillance

Despite the advertising campaigns to raise awareness among motorists and drivers, the DGT has seen how traffic accidents have returned to being high since the end of the state of alarm was decreed.

To ensure that accidents do not go to more, the DGT has developed a special surveillance plan this summer that will focus on more control on the roads, and more surveillance on complicated weekends.

The first performance was the weekend of May 29 and 30; The following campaigns will be activated on the weekends of June 24 and 25 and September 4-5.
