Physicist David Cox, from the UK’s National Physics Laboratory, has created the world’s smallest snowman with the tools commonly used to manipulate nanoparticles. The figure is only 0.01 millimeters thick , equivalent to a quarter of the thickness of a human hair.

To make it, Cox used two small tin balls that were soldered with platinum, the same material he used for the tiny nose. A focused ion beam allowed him to carve her eyes and smile. The photograph was taken with the help of an electron microscope .
