Fans of the royal hit series of the streaming service will soon get their money’s worth again – with a new queen.

Los Angeles – The highly anticipated fifth season of the Netflix series “The Crown” starts on November 9th. The streaming giant announced this on Saturday on Twitter and as part of the virtual Netflix event “Tudum”.

The British Imelda Staunton (66) takes on the role of Queen Elizabeth II. Claire Foy and Olivia Colman had previously played the monarch.

Jonathan Pryce plays her husband, Prince Philip. Prince Charles and Lady Diana are portrayed by Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki. Since 2016, Netflix has been staging the lives of the British royals in its award-winning series. The first two seasons dealt with the early years of the Queen between family scandals and political crises. The fifth season is said to be about the early 1990s, when Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s relationship continued to deteriorate.

Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96. According to a media report, the number of viewers of the Netflix series “The Crown” in Great Britain increased significantly after the death of the Queen. dpa
