Robert Pattinson descends into the eternal night of Gotham City as Batman. Peter Dinklage ghostwrites in Cyrano, and Oscar Isaac’s past catches up with him in thriller The Card Counter.

“The Batman”: Pattinson in bat costume

Los Angeles – With the reboot “The Batman”, the film series about the popular comic hero is entering the next round. The film is directed by Matt Reeves. The trailers suggest that it will be even darker and more brutal. “I am vengeance,” says an extremely angry Batman (Robert Pattinson), this time dealing with two villains. Paul Dano plays the Riddler as a psychopathic killer. His face was not visible beforehand. On the other hand, Colin Farrell is hardly recognizable as a penguin with a lot of mask and make-up. Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman seems drawn to the bat based on first impressions.

“Cyrano”: Peter Dinklage as esthete

Berlin (AP) – Cyrano de Bergerac (Peter Dinklage), officer in France in the late 17th century, loves the beautiful Roxanne (Haley Bennett). But he is short. That’s why he thinks she can’t return his feelings. When one of his friends wants to conquer Roxanne, Cyrano helps him: he writes her the most wonderful love letters in his name. This leads to comic and tragic complications. Edmond Rostand’s world-famous verse drama “Cyrano de Bergerac” is a musical based on great feelings, melancholic songs and Hollywood star Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”) as the romantic title hero.

„The Card Counter“: Drama mit Oscar Isaac

Berlin (AP) – A quiet, introverted man who earns his money gambling in casinos: At first glance, William Tell seems to be a rather inconspicuous guy with a somewhat unusual job. But then his dark past catches up with him – with “The Card Counter” and Oscar Isaac in the leading role, veteran director Paul Schrader (“A Man for Certain Hours”) presents a subtle political drama. Because William Tell (Isaac) used to be a US soldier in Abu Ghraib in Iraq and tortured prisoners. He was convicted and spent a long time in prison – but not superiors and commanders like the one played by Willem Dafoe.

„Trouble Every Day“: Wiederaufführung

Berlin (AP) – This film has more than twenty years under its belt. The music comes from the English indie masters Tindersticks. The main actors are Béatrice Dalle and Vincent Gallo; Claire Denis directed it. A digital restoration has made it possible for this cult piece, which oscillates between eroticism and horror, to be made accessible to younger cineastes on the big screen (the film does not have a very low FSK rating, of course). It’s about an American couple in Paris, about strange experiments, about vampirism. By the way, at the Berlinale, the French Denis has just been awarded the Silver Bear for directing “Both Sides of the Blade”.
