The Thai driver, who returns to F1 in 2022 after a year as a Red Bull reserve driver and competing in the DTM, began his preparation for the new season with a visit to the Grove factory on Wednesday.
However, things did not go quite well, as he made a minor oversight while working on his first day with Williams.
“I already lost my car keys on the first day, but we found them, which was great,” he admitted.
“I thought I left them on the tray I ate dinner on, so I was about to start looking in the garbage cans, but luckily they were right next to the sofa in the simulator room. So we skipped the trip to The trash”.
Alex Albon spent the day getting to know each member of the team and was taken aback by how big the British team’s organization was.
“Some people see Williams as a small team, but it’s still huge,” he said. “There are still a lot of people here, from marketing to aerodynamics, from the machine shop to accounting, it’s a great team.”
“I’ve seen a lot of new faces and I’m not too sure I remember everyone’s names, but it’s been great meeting them.”
He added: “It’s a very international team and there are a lot of names I don’t have in my head yet, but I’ll learn them!”
“Beyond that, I got to know my side of the garage in terms of engineering and working on the simulator. We learned how we work: what makes me click and what makes them click.”
Albon said that before his return to F1 he felt much calmer about everything, and he will try to make a strong impression in 2022.
“It will be my third year in F1, but I think I gained a lot of experience during the time I was there,” he reflected. “Now I will not enter as a rookie, but knowing what I am doing and what I want.”
“It’s great to be able to work with this team that will listen to me. We will listen to each other and try to get the most out of this car.”
