Fabio Quartararo started from pole in Barcelona and everything seemed on track for him to get his second consecutive victory after the previous week at the Mugello Circuit. However, his plans were disrupted when he was overtaken at the start by Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira .

The Portuguese KTM rider set a pace that no one expected and took victory at the Catalunya Grand Prix. Johann Zarco made a race from less to more and finished second. Quartararo and Miller ended up fighting for the podium. The Frenchman crossed the finish line third, but was penalized with three seconds for exceeding the limits of the track and the third step of the podium went to the Australian.
