“Expand your horizons, immerse yourself in the future with Blue Abyss” , with these words one of the most innovative projects of our time has been presented. It is Blue Abyss , which aims to become the leading research , training and testing center for the world’s deep space and marine environment . This unique aquatic center in the world will house the largest and deepest indoor swimming pool so that when it is completed in Cornwall , it will be 17 Olympic swimming pools or 168 million cups of tea in size.

Blue Abyss is the brainchild of former dive instructor and technology consultant John Vickers : “We dream of a better world and a more sustainable future for today’s society and for future generations. As humans, we constantly explore, constantly looking for answers. To fly higher, to dive deeper. To better understand our planet and discover what is out there.

As Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins said, ‘It is in human nature to go, see, understand. Exploration is not really a choice; I wanted to push the boundaries, go beyond what was expected, plan for the future , not just today. It is a huge company, but the reality is that it will be an inheritance for generations to come, ”explained Vickers .

The largest and deepest pool in the world will have multiple entry points and will feature multi-level depths to accommodate a variety of activities and simultaneous use , up to a 50m well. On one side of the pool, a large 12-meter table-like area, it will be possible to house, for example, a simulated section of the International Space Station for the training of commercial astronauts.

The record-setting facility will be used to test the latest underwater technology, help advance underwater robotics , simulate extreme environments in a safe and controlled environment, and will include the world’s first commercial astronaut training center.

Thus, the innovative 10-acre aquatic center will house, in addition to the pool, the astronaut training center , the human performance center, the hypobaric and hyperbaric chambers, a microgravity suite, the training center with six classrooms, laboratories, catering facilities and accommodation. Construction will take about 18 months to complete with a view to opening in 2023.
