The United States Social Security (SSA) has published the list of the most popular girl and boy names for babies in the United States in 2021 . As we have seen in previous years, they sneak into the top 10 names that are also popular in other parts of the world, including Spain.
Olivia and Liam are the most popular again
Like last year Olivia for a girl and Liam for a boy, they repeat in the first place of the names that parents chose for their newborns.
It’s the fifth year in a row that Liam has been the first choice, and the third year in a row for Olivia.
In terms of new additions, it’s the first time Theodore has made the top 10 list.

- Olivia : of Latin origin, it means “the one who brings peace”.
- Emma : of Germanic origin, it means “Great”, “Strong”, “Immense”, “Powerful”.
- Charlotte : French version, feminine diminutive of ‘Charles’. It means “free woman”
- Amelia : name of Greek origin whose meaning is “work”. Could be interpreted as “working woman”
- Ava : of Hebrew origin, English variant of Eva and means “to give life”.
- Sophia : of Greek origin and means “wisdom”, “the one who possesses wisdom”.
- Isabella : Italian form of Isabella, meaning “God’s promise”. It is also one of the most popular girl names in Mexico.
- Mia: it is a name that continues to set trends in recent years. It is of Hebrew origin, diminutive of Maria. Also among the most popular names in Argentina.
- Evelyn : name of Celtic origin, variant of Eva, meaning “pleasant or pleasant”.
- Harper: unisex name of Anglo-Saxon origin, meaning “he/she who plays the harp”
If we look at the most popular names in Spain, we also find Emma and Sofia in the top 10, while names like Olivia and Mia are among the names that are rising like foam in the latest trends.

- Benjamin: means ‘sons of’ in Arabic. Also among the most popular baby names in Portugal and Argentina, among others.
