The MotoGP will drop two seconds the time of the WorldSBK in Mandalika

Mandalika.- Both Honda , Yamaha and Ducati will start with a certain advantage this Friday compared to Suzuki , KTM and Aprilia . The two Japanese brands and the one from Borgo Panigale have been able to use the data collected by their respective divisions that compete in the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK), which premiered this track last November.

Despite the fact that the WorldSBK bikes and those measured in MotoGP have nothing to do with each other, there are certain parameters that are worth consulting, especially when it comes time to configure the first version of the gearbox that will be used this Friday, when the MotoGP riders take to the track for the first time.

“On top of that,” a Ducati source tells Motorsport.com; “The teams also take as a reference the differences in the lap time of the Superbike bike and the MotoGP bike, in other circuits. This way we can make an approximation of the time that we think will be done here”.

The three teams consulted by the writer of these lines encrypt the cut in the stopwatch that will take place this weekend in two seconds.

Thus, if the best lap of the WorldSBK round went to Toprak Razgatlioglu, who set the clock at 1.32.877 seconds during Superpole, the fastest MotoGP riders should be able to lap in a minute and a half.

“Honda is lucky to have a team in the Superbike World Championship, so we can get some ideas. It’s not that it’s a huge advantage, because the bike is different and its cornering, too. But it can help you guide”, explains from Mandalika Santi Hernández , Marc Márquez’s track engineer.

“What I have done is watch many videos of the Superbike race”, added Pol Espargaró.

“We”, says Frankie Carchedi , technical manager of Joan Mir, at Suzuki, “will have to start from scratch. That will make us have a little more work, but the ground recovers soon”.

The Mandalika Circuit, in Indonesia, opens this season as the venue for a MotoGP Grand Prix, being scheduled as the second race of the course after the start in Qatar, from March 17 to 20.
