The mystery behind Manhattan's windowless skyscraper

0

New York is a city that is home to a large number of secret places, such as the City Hall subway station that was abandoned in 1945 because its arches were too low and the train could not pass through them. In Manhattan there is a windowless skyscraper that attracts a lot of tourists’ attention .

Its name is “Long Lines Building” (LLB) and it is located at 33 Thomas Street . The most curious thing of all is that it is a building built entirely in concrete and does not have a single window. It is, therefore, a kind of bunker 169 meters high and 29 plants inside.

Its construction began in 1969 by the hand of the architect John Carl Warnecke, and ended in 1975. Since then, it has been a surveillance center of the National Security Agency . A fortress that can withstand any type of attack, even nuclear.

It is self-sufficient in energy, and its structure allows it to provide water, food and fuel to 1,500 people for two weeks . Roger Piqueras worked in the building for five years and, according to statements to “La Vnguardia”, it has a well with drinking water, astronaut-type food in dry packages and an electric generator.

To the public, the “Long Lines Building” is supposed to have housed one of the largest telecommunications companies in the US . However, a few years ago, “The Intercept” published an investigative paper that claimed that the windowless skyscraper in Manhattan is actually a base of the National Security Agency.

“The New York Times” already reached this conclusion in 1994. The newspaper published an article stating that the building “could be part of a gigantic World Intelligence Network, which receives an average of 175 million phone calls a day” .

At first it was baptized as “Project X”, and the building does not receive any type of natural lighting . The main purpose of the skyscraper when it was built was not to protect lives in the event of a major catastrophe, but to create a fortress to keep secret computers and files safe. It was one of the most important telecommunications havens of the time.

To this day it remains in its original location, and everything indicates that the mysterious skyscraper is the spy base of the United States National Security Agency .
