The other business that Huawei seeks to consolidate in Mexico

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.- Huawei wants to consolidate itself as the main cloud provider in Latin America and to achieve this it will expand its services so that large companies as well as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) can support their operations.

The phone manufacturer is betting heavily on this business, which has become relevant in the face of the growing need for companies of all sizes to back up information, after the acceleration of the digital transformation that the pandemic triggered.

“Large companies in sectors such as finance and telecommunications were the ones that afforded themselves the luxury of having these computing centers; now we want any small company to have access to them,” said Joaquín Saldaña, director of strategy and marketing for Huawei Latin America.

Fernando Liu, president of Huawei Cloud Latin America, explained that three years after the company decided to focus on its cloud storage services business, it has managed to position itself among the five largest providers worldwide. In Latin America it is already the third most important player.

Now, the company will expand its cloud network, through the launch of availability zones in Data Centers, starting in the first half of 2023. The expansion of its cloud storage services segment will also be replicated in Chile with an AZ3 zone and in Colombia with a connection point.

The company of Chinese origin assures that the expansion of its cloud services will make it possible to democratize the service, since small and medium-sized companies will be able to use the cloud at a low cost. “An example is the unicorns in fintech. We can now pay in any store and the terminal is no longer the one provided by the bank, but these companies need to store a lot of information,” Saldaña explained in an interview with the media within the framework of the Huawei Cloud forum. Latin Summit 2022.

The ‘explosion’ of data in Latin America

The decision to increase its cloud storage services in areas such as Mexico, Chile and Colombia is due to its geographical location of business.

“Our strategy is to support Latin America and expand cloud storage services. What is coming is great news for Mexico, we announce AZ2 and AZ3 (areas where the infrastructure for Data Centers is located), which will be there by 2023. For Chile AZ3 and for Colombia our new POP (connection point) for September 2022. We are here in Latin America and for Latin America”, said the president of Huawei Cloud Latin America.

The new zones for the cloud service in Mexico will be added to the Data Center of Tultitlán, State of Mexico, which Huawei launched in October last year and which will focus on the demand of the education, medicine, retail and Internet in the country, since they are the markets that most require this type of technology to speed up their business and to support their information.

“Our vision (as a company) is to enable every person and organization to connect intelligently. Particularly, from our division, we take care of the infrastructure, storage, redundancy and security so that (companies) do not have to build a data center”, Liu assured at the Huawei Cloud Latam Summit 2022 forum.

According to the IDC consultancy, the cloud storage services market will have a market value of 338.3 billion dollars by 2025. Today it is led globally by companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Google, AliCloud, IBM, Tencent , Huawei and Oracle.
