What would you do with 2,500 million pesos: pay taxes or buy a yacht? TV Azteca, owned by Ricardo Salinas Pliego, assured that it will continue to defend itself through legal channels so as not to pay the 2,447 million pesos that it owes to the SAT. An amount similar to what the Mexican tycoon spent to buy one of the most luxurious yachts in the world.
This Tuesday, it was revealed that the Superior Chamber of the Administrative Justice Court ordered TV Azteca to pay the Tax Administration Service (SAT) a debt for Income Tax, fines and surcharges from the sale of its shares.
Ricardo Salinas Pliego is one of the richest men in Mexico thanks to his many businesses, including TV Azteca. And his fortune gave him the opportunity to buy, in 2021, a yacht for 125 million euros from a Saudi tycoon and considered one of the 15 most luxurious boats in the world.
What is the new Salinas Pliego yacht like?
The yacht was named ‘Lady Moura’, it has a heliport, spa, casino, elevator, cinema, party room, swimming pool with retractable roof, beach club, lounges, dining rooms, air conditioning and a beauty salon. It also has 13 luxury cabins, capacity to accommodate 27 guests and a crew of 71 people.
Its value in national currency is almost 2,600 million pesos, that is, it cost a little more expensive than what TV Azteca, of Salinas Pliego, owes to the Treasury.
But while his company uses legal arguments and files appeals not to pay what he considers “excessive charges” by the SAT, Salinas Pliego took advantage of last Easter to dock in Seville, Spain, aboard his luxurious yacht.
According to the newspaper ‘El Mundo’, on the afternoon of Holy Thursday, Salinas Pliego visited the region of Andalusia in the company of his wife, to see the processions of the religious celebrations. And it’s not the first time he’s done it. In 2012 and 2014, he docked at the Sevillano dock aboard his yacht ‘Azteca’.
On this occasion he visited Triana, ate at the La Casa de María restaurant, with views of the Guadalquivir river and the Plaza del Altozano and the Triana bridge, where the procession of the Esperanza de Triana brotherhood passes.
Meanwhile, his new yacht, whose name ‘Lady Moura’ is engraved in 24-carat gold letters, lay in the waters of Seville. Until Good Friday, when the couple and their friends returned to the boat to end the evening with a bit of flamenco in private. All in a very discreet way, because the city was in mourning for the death of Jesus Christ.
