The Secretaries of Tourism and Economy seek to promote health tourism

Health tourism, which refers to medical trips made by people to another country or state, became popular after the Covid-19 pandemic. Given this scenario, the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and the Ministry of Economy (SE) launched the Training and Development Program for Health Tourism Clusters in Mexico.

The agencies considered that Mexico has all the elements to compete for travelers who want to do Health Tourism, based in the United States and Canada, those who choose Latin America and also those Mexicans who have sought other options outside the country.

They summoned entrepreneurs and actors that make up this industry. The program, in which 70 representatives of the country’s 13 Health Tourism Clusters participate , began on September 23 and consists of one session per month.

The first session was carried out through the training platform of the University of the Incarnate Word of San Antonio, Texas (UIW), after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the institution in the middle of last month. focused on the training and development of clusters in Mexico.

“The promotion of Health Tourism contributes to increasing the economic benefit and per capita spending of visitors, and allows the benefits of this activity to permeate the population,” added Miguel Torruco Marqués, head of the Sectur.

The topics addressed in the first session were the development of a Health Tourism cluster, the necessary elements for a high-performance cluster and the six-month planning process. The second session of the Health Tourism Cluster Training and Development Program Health of Mexico will be on October 14.

In the facilities of the Ministry of Economy, on May 30, the “National Meeting of Health Tourism Clusters” was held, which was attended by 45 participants, members of clusters from the country’s states, as well as representatives of eight state governments. and the municipality of Nuevo Laredo.

What was agreed after the meeting was to privilege the training and development of the Health Tourism Clusters; and integrate the National Network of Health Tourism Clusters.

The Mexican Health Tourism clusters that participate in this program come from Baja California, Tamaulipas, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Puebla, Veracruz, Quintana Roo and Yucatán.
