Marc Márquez returned to get a pole after three seasons in white. Since his injury at the start of the 2020 campaign, Marc had not been fastest on a qualifying day – ironically, since the last Japanese Grand Prix, in 2019.

After 1,071 days, and being his second weekend since his return to competition, Marc was very strong in a Q2 strongly conditioned by the adverse weather, which at times put the holding of training in danger.

He will be joined on the front row of the grid by Johann Zarco, second, and Brad Binder, third. Regarding the three contenders for the title, Aleix Espargaró is the best classified, in sixth place, with Fabio Quartararo ninth and Pecco Bagnaia twelfth. Enea Bastianini did not get a direct pass to Q2, and crashed in Q1, so she will start from 15th position.
