After each grand prix of the 2022 season, Motorsport.com brings you a compilation of the most important statistics. These are the most interesting figures and data after the nineteenth round of the season, the United States Grand Prix.

The statistics of the event and the participants of the 2022 F1 US GP

– This was the 43rd edition of the United States Grand Prix. The event has been contested at eight different speedways since 1959: Sebring, Riverside, Watkins Glen, Dallas, Detroit, Phoenix, Indianapolis and now Austin.

– The Austin circuit hosted F1 for the tenth time, as many as Zolder and Jacarepagua.

– Fernando Alonso made his 353rd start in the premier class. This is a new historical record.

– After equaling Jenson Button in Japan, Lewis Hamilton has overtaken him and made 307 starts in F1, the same as Michael Schumacher. This leaves him behind only Alonso, Kimi Räikkönen and Rubens Barrichello, who has made a total of 323 starts.

F1 US GP 2022 qualifying stats

– Carlos Sainz got the third pole of his career, equaling Dan Gurney, Jody Scheckter and Daniel Ricciardo, among others.

– It was Ferrari’s 242nd pole position as a constructor and 243rd as an engine manufacturer. It was the first of the Scuderia to do so in Austin.

– It has been the seventh time in the 2022 season that the difference between the poleman and the second has been less than 0.100s, and the fourth time in the last five grands prix that the top three have been within a tenth of each other.

– Verstappen started from the front row for the 40th time in his career. It was the seventh time for Sainz, as many as Bruce McLaren or Patrick Depailler.

– Although due to engine penalties, it was the first time that Mercedes had both cars in the top 4 on the grid this season. Hamilton also matched his best starting position of the campaign.

– Lance Stroll’s fifth place on the grid (after qualifying seventh) was the best starting position for Aston Martin since Spa last year.

F1 US GP 2022 race stats

– Max Verstappen achieved his 33rd victory in a grand prix, beating Fernando Alonso and placing himself fifth in the all-time standings.

– It was Red Bull’s 90th victory as a manufacturer and 15th as an engine manufacturer.

– The victory gave the team its fifth constructors’ title, the first since 2013.

– Red Bull now has 15 wins this season, its best result in absolute terms and, for the moment, in percentage terms (78.94% compared to 68.42% with the 13 wins in 2013).

– It is also the team’s eighth consecutive win since the French GP, one short of its own record (between Belgium and Brazil in 2013) and three short of the all-time record (11 for McLaren, between the Brazilian and Belgian GPs in 1988).

– It was also Verstappen’s 13th win of the season, equaling the record held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. In percentage terms, Verstappen has 68.42% of victories so far this year, less than Alberto Ascari (75% in 1952), Michael Schumacher (72.22% in 2004) and Jim Clark (70% 1963).

– By winning in Miami and Austin, Verstappen is the first driver since Alan Jones in 1981 to win twice on American soil in the same season. The Australian got it in Long Beach and Las Vegas.

– It was the 75th podium for Max Verstappen, the 189th for Lewis Hamilton (still a record) and the 23rd for Charles Leclerc, who equaled James Hunt, Michele Alboreto and Jacques Villeneuve.

– Lewis Hamilton led his 182nd grand prix, which is still a record.

– It was Lewis Hamilton’s 20th consecutive race without a win, his personal worst streak. But trailing the winner by 5.023 seconds, it was the closest he had come to a win this season.

– With his fifth consecutive podium finish since Zandvoort, Charles Leclerc is enjoying the best run of his racing career.

– George Russell set the third fastest lap of his career, as did Jochen Rindt, Keke Rosberg and Pierre Gasly.

– Valtteri Bottas failed to score points for the tenth consecutive time. It is the first time since 2013, his first season in the premier class.

– Alfa Romeo has only scored a single point in the last 10 grands prix. It is the team’s worst record since the end of the 2017 season (no points in the last 12 races).

– Carlos Sainz has only completed one lap in the last two races, a situation he has already experienced this year at the Australian and Emilia Romagna GPs.
