After each grand prix of the 2022 Formula 1 season, we at Motorsport.com offer you the compilation of the most important statistics. Below you can find the most interesting figures and data from the eleventh round of the season, the Austrian GP.

The statistics of the Austrian GP 2022 and the drivers

– This has been the 35th edition of the Austrian Grand Prix, which is one of the 15 most closely contested races in the history of Formula 1. It was held once in Zeltweg and 34 in Spielberg. The latter includes the 18 times it was raced at the Österreichring and the 16 at its shortened version, the A-1 Ring or Red Bull Ring )

– The Spielberg circuit hosted F1 for the 36th time in its different versions: Österreichring, A1-Ring and Red Bull Ring. This issue includes two editions of the Styrian Grand Prix.

– Fernando Alonso made his 345th start in F1, which places him five behind the record for most grand prix races held by Kimi Raikkonen (350).

– Esteban Ocon completed 100 grand prix in Formula 1. He is the 75th driver to reach this figure since the creation of the world championship in the category.

– Max Verstappen reached 129 grands prix with Mark Webber’s Red Bull, equaling the record and coming close to becoming the driver with the most races with the Austrian team.

Qualifying and the sprint race

Max Verstappen took his 16th pole position in qualifying on Friday, equaling Stirling Moss and Felipe Massa.

– It was Red Bull’s 77th pole position as a manufacturer and fourth as an engine manufacturer.

– Esteban Ocon qualified in 5th place, his best result since the Grands Prix of Saudi Arabia 2022 (5th), Spain 2021 (5th) and Styria 2020 (5th). To find a better result, you have to go back to the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix, when he achieved a third place on the grid.

– Aston Martin suffered a double elimination in Q1 in 3 consecutive qualifying sessions, something unheard of for more than thirteen years. The two drivers of the team, which was still called Force India at the time, fell in the first session nine consecutive times, between the 2008 Singapore and 2009 Spanish Grands Prix.

– Sebastian Vettel was eliminated in consecutive Q1s for the first time in his career.

– Max Verstappen won a sprint race for the third time. Only Valtteri Bottas has achieved victory in these events apart from the Dutchman, with two first places.

– Verstappen remains the only driver to have finished in the top five in every sprint: three times first, twice second.

– Sprint races do not sit well with Lewis Hamilton, who has only been on the podium once.

– Pierre Gasly has lost 22 places on the grid in the five sprints he has contested since 2021. On Sunday he was able to recover one of them thanks to Valtteri Bottas’ engine penalty.

– Max Verstappen started on the front row for the 36th time in his career. It was the 19th time for Charles Leclerc, who is level with Chris Amon and Ralf Schumacher .

The race

– Charles Leclerc achieved his fifth victory in Formula 1, equaling the illustrious names of Giuseppe Farina and Keke Rosberg .

– This is his first victory without starting from pole, as he was second on the grid.

– It is the 242nd victory for Ferrari as a manufacturer and the 243rd as an engine manufacturer, which are still the records.

– Ferrari hadn’t won the Austrian Grand Prix since Michael Schumacher in 2003.

– Max Verstappen set his 19th fastest lap in the race, as many as Stirling Moss , Ayrton Senna and Damon Hill, but also Valtteri Bottas.

– It was the 18th podium finish in Formula 1 for Charles Leclerc, as many as Mike Hawthorn and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, the 68th for Max Verstappen, who equaled Rubens Barrichello and overtook Valtteri Bottas, and the 186th for Lewis Hamilton, the holder of the record.

– Bottas and Verstappen have stood on the podium together 25 times. On 20 occasions, his partner was Hamilton (an all-time record for a set of three drivers), and on the other five, the third drivers were Raikkonen, Vettel, Leclerc, Norris and Pérez.

– Max Verstappen has broken the 7,000 km barrier in the lead (7,049) and is 15th in the all-time table, led by Lewis Hamilton with 27,530 km.

– With Mick Schumacher 6th and Kevin Magnussen 8th, Haas achieved the second best overall result in its history, after Romain Grosjean and Magnussen fourth and fifth at the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix.

– Haas has scored 19 points in the last two Grands Prix, which contrasts with the 2 achieved by the team’s three main rivals together: Alfa Romeo (0), AlphaTauri (0) and Aston Martin (2).

– Haas has 133 grands prix without being on the podium, surpassing Osella (132) but far from Minardi’s record (340). However, Osella’s number is not very representative, since he could not start in many races of the grand prix in which he entered, as he did not qualify for them.

– Mick Schumacher’s sixth place was the best result of his Formula 1 career.

– Lando Norris finished seventh and it was his worst finish in six races at the Red Bull Ring (6th, 3rd, 5th, 5th, 3rd).

– Sergio Pérez has already left three times this season, as many as in 2021 and more than in 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015.

– Lewis Hamilton remains the only driver to have finished every race of the 2022 season.

– Fernando Alonso has now completed 18,619 laps in Grand Prix racing, two laps short of Kimi Raikkonen’s record of 18,621.
