The statistics of the Italian GP 2022 of F1 and the pilots
– This was the 73rd edition of the Italian Grand Prix, one of only two events on the Formula 1 calendar to have reached that figure, along with the British Grand Prix.
– Monza is the circuit that has hosted a top-class race the most times: it was the 72nd time, since one of the editions of the Italian GP took place in Imola.
– Monza holds the record of 40 different winners. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are the only drivers to have won there more than three times, with five wins each.
– Fernando Alonso made his 350th start in F1, equaling Kimi Räikkönen’s record for the most Grands Prix.
– Conversely, Nyck de Vries enjoyed his first Formula 1 Grand Prix appearance, becoming the 772nd driver in history to do so.
– It was the first time the starting grid had two Dutch drivers since Christijan Albers and Robert Doornbos at the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix.
– Nyck de Vries wore the colors of two teams in the same weekend. The last time this happened was also at the 1978 Italian Grand Prix. Harald Ertl failed to qualify with Ensign and then tried it with an ATS.
The statistics of the classification of the Italian GP 2022 of F1
– Charles Leclerc took his 17th career pole, equaling Jackie Stewart and Max Verstappen.
– It was the 240th pole position for Ferrari as a team and the 241st as an engine manufacturer, numbers that are still records.
– Eight pole positions in the same season for a Ferrari driver? That is what Leclerc has just achieved, and it is something unheard of since Michael Schumacher in 2004.
– Lewis Hamilton has not qualified in the top three in 16 grands prix this season. That is unprecedented in his racing career in F1.
– Qualifying eighth but starting fourth due to penalties, Daniel Ricciardo returned to the front two rows of the grid for the first time since… his win at Monza just a year ago.
– It was also the best starting position of the year for Lando Norris (third), Pierre Gasly (fifth), Guanyu Zhou (ninth) and Nicholas Latifi (10th).
– For the ninth time this year, Sebastian Vettel was eliminated in Q1. Overcoming all of his Q1 eliminations in his years at Red Bull and Ferrari between 2009 and 2020.
The statistics of the Italian GP 2022 F1 race
– Max Verstappen got his 31st victory in F1. He is now tied with Nigel Mansell for seventh place in the all-time standings.
– This is Verstappen’s 11th win in 16 grands prix this season. It is a success of 68.75; only Alberto Ascari (6 out of 8 in 1952), Michael Schumacher (13 out of 18 in 2004) and Jim Clark (7 out of 10 in 1963) achieved a higher percentage.
– Verstappen improved on his own record by winning from seven different positions on the starting grid in the same year (first, second, third, fourth, seventh, tenth and fourteenth).
– Before his victory at Monza this year, Verstappen had only completed one lap as the leader at this circuit (in 2021).
– Red Bull Racing achieved its 87th victory as a team and its 12th as an engine manufacturer.
– Oddly enough, this is the first time in the turbo hybrid era that Red Bull has been on the podium at the Italian Grand Prix.
– Charles Leclerc saw his conversion rate of poles to wins drop again: his 17 poles translated into just four wins (23.5%). Historically, among the drivers who have achieved more than five poles, René Arnoux is the least successful (two wins from 18 poles, half of which were followed by retirement).
– Sergio Pérez did his ninth fastest lap, as did Denny Hulme, Ronnie Peterson and Jacques Villeneuve.
– It was the 73rd podium for Max Verstappen in Formula 1, the 20th for Charles Leclerc (equaling Nino Farina and John Watson) and the eighth for George Russell (equaling Lorenzo Bandini and Jean-Pierre Beltoise, among others).
– It was Lewis Hamilton’s seventeenth consecutive race without a win.
– By finishing his first race in the points, Nyck de Vries became the 78th driver in history to do so. Guanyu Zhou, Yuki Tsunoda, Stoffel Vandoorne, Carlos Sainz and Felipe Nasr were the last to do so.
– Instead, only three drivers have done it with a Williams: Jacques Villeneuve in 1996, Nico Rosberg in 2006 and Nyck de Vries last Sunday.
– Finally, it is the first time that a car with the number 45 scores!
– Nyck de Vries was voted “Driver of the Day” by the fans, marking the first time this title has been awarded to a driver on his debut.
– Fernando Alonso ended his best run since the start of the 2014 season by dropping out of the top 10 after ten Grands Prix finishing in the points zone.
– And for the first time since Imola, no Alpine finished in the points.
– Valtteri Bottas failed to score points for the seventh consecutive time. It is the first time that has happened to him since 2013, his first season in the premier class.
– This is the tenth consecutive race in which the Safety Car or Virtual Safety Car has been deployed.
– For the tenth time in history, the race ended under a Safety Car period. The previous one was at the 2020 Bahrain GP, which was won by Lewis Hamilton.
