The Central Bank of Afghanistan has reported this Sunday that the Taliban have recovered some 14 million euros that were in the hands of corrupt politicians and former politicians until the movement reconquered the country, on August 15.
Specifically, the Taliban have seized 86.1 million Afghans (about 820,000 euros), 15.9 million dollars (13.7 million euros), another 7,450 euros, 30,000 Pakistani rupees (1,500 euros) and 300 dinars ( 70 euros).
The appropriations have been made in the provinces of Panjshir, Jost, Logar and the province of the capital, Kabul.
The Taliban have promised to tackle the corruption of the previous government to gain the trust of the population and have asked the United States to unfreeze its funds held abroad – about 9,000 million dollars – to facilitate the transition of power.

The Taliban government has asked the United States to release around $ 9 billion in assets blocked abroad as a result of the sanctions imposed on the movement after the conquest of the country by the insurgent group.
“Afghanistan is now going through a special phase, and the wealth of the Afghans must be unfrozen to solve their problems,” said Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Jan Muttaqi.
The United States froze the funds following the culmination of the Taliban’s reconquest of the country with the seizure of power over the capital, Kabul, on August 15.
Likewise, Mutaqqi would have received a commitment from the United States to send more vaccines against the coronavirus and other types of humanitarian assistance to the Central Asian country, although the details will be outlined in future meetings, as long as the international community refrains from “destabilizing” the new regime.
“We have made it clear to the United States that destabilizing Afghanistan and weakening the current government is not in anyone’s interest. Stability, positive interaction between Afghanistan and the international community are in everyone’s interest. You should not try to weaken the current government and cause problems for Afghans, “he said in an interview with the Bajtarnews news portal.
The minister reiterated that the new Taliban government “is committed to interacting positively with the international community, paving the way for the regular distribution of international aid, paying government employees and providing facilities and services to the people of Afghanistan.”
