The technical keys of the Aston Martin AMR22 of F1 2022

After a rather decaffeinated start for Formula 1 fans with presentations from Haas through virtual images and from Red Bull with an identical base model to Formula 1, Aston Martin finally showed us an authentic Formula 1 single-seater. 2022 season.

While it is true that the car will evolve rapidly for the first tests in Barcelona and the opening round in Bahrain, the Brits revealed enough to give us a first glimpse of what we can expect from the new era of the Grand Circus.

The AMR22’s front wing has four elements, which is the maximum allowed in this year’s regulations. As with the Haas renders, Aston Martin has chosen not to connect the main plane with the nose section.

That’s where the comparisons really end, though, because the second element is much taller and almost artificially widens the nose tip where the two meet.

The upper wings are a bit squarer than the version featured on the FOM and Haas prototype. It looks like both will be adjustable, with a regulator mounted inside, next to the nose.

The nose itself is much squarer than the one shown at the 2021 British Grand Prix on the show car. There is a defined surface on the nose bridge and sides, instead of the convex shape that we had become accustomed to in FOM virtual simulations.

On the other hand, on the side , you can see the effort that has been made to make the nose as slim as possible, since it narrows until it meets the chassis.

The most striking feature in the visual section are the sidepods , with a very small box-shaped entrance, with a body that widens to fill part of the volume that is allowed in this area.

This means it’s not quite as wide as seen in the Haas renders, but unlike the VF-22 , the rest of the bodywork remains high in outline to the rear of the car, rather than dropping off abruptly. as happened in recent seasons to continue with the design of the radiators and intercoolers inside.

This is where the AMR22 has some commonalities with the FOM mock-up, however the approach is much more aggressive, as the size of the inside of the side pillar demonstrates.

On the upper surface of the sidepod, we can also see that Aston Martin have taken the opportunity to add cooling gills along the flank of the car, meaning that at the rear the bodywork can be maximally narrowed.

Not only does this result in an extremely narrow section in the bottleneck region, but it also means that we get the familiar bulges on the engine cover that were on the previous generation of cars, with a single intake unit. shrunk power to max.

Aston Martin is also the first team to show a version of the 2022 car with DRS , and not only does the actuator appear, but you can make out the closing lines and wing pivot points, which are on the inside of the wings. endplate end plates.

The wing itself has some interesting geometric design features, while there also appears to be a slot in the rear quarter of the endplate, parallel to the taillights which should still be embedded in the trailing edge of said piece.

The AMR22 ‘s rear wing also features a dual-element spoiler, rather than the single one we saw in the Haas renders.
