Security expert Claire lost her husband Gabriel in a tsunami. 15 years later she sees his likeness in a restaurant. Who is the man? Can she trust him?

Berlin – Claire has just moved to Abu Dhabi with her husband and son when her past seems to catch up with her. In a luxury restaurant, she notices a man who is sneaking into an elevator.

The security expert is certain: this is Gabriel, her husband, whom she lost 15 years ago in a tsunami in Thailand. But why should he have let her believe he was dead? In the thriller series “Mirage” (Mirage is the English word for Fata Morgana) Claire wanders all over the desert city to find answers. ZDF will repeat the three episodes of the series from August 15 on Sundays at 10:15 p.m.

It soon becomes clear: Claire does not seem to be chasing after an illusion. Rather, the question soon arises: who is up to what, who can they trust? And what is she willing to do to restore her battered reputation?

Leading actress Marie-Josée Croze (“Jack Ryan”, “In the Name of My Daughter – The Kalinka Case”) makes Claire’s inner conflicts tangible: There is the son who never got to know his father and who might now have the chance. There is the new husband, for whom Claire hardly has any eyes or time. And there is her former husband, whom she could never forget. And the catastrophe in a nuclear power plant 15 years ago with several deaths for which she was blamed. Now some things are becoming clearer to Claire.

Secret meetings and car chases take place against the backdrop of Abu Dhabi with modern luxury buildings and winding old town markets. The tension as to whether it is really Gabriel or not, on the other hand, is resolved very quickly. Quite a few turns of the espionage thriller emerged early on. The European expat community, with its celebrations on luxury boats, looks like a hotbed of intrigue early on, and why should Claire’s family be spared entanglements? Still, “Mirage” is entertaining.

The series was broadcast for the first time last year in the Second and was created in cooperation between France Télévisions and ZDF. It is a project of the “European Alliance” launched in 2017, a cooperation platform for the production of high-quality fictional European series. In addition to Marie-Josée Croze, you can see Clive Standen (“Viking”) as Gabriel and Hannes Jaenicke (“In action for …”) as Claire’s second husband Lukas. dpa
