The vaccine: the moment that will change the future

(Expansion) – One of my favorite activities is writing about financial culture and combining it with another of my passions which is aviation. By making this comparison between the two, I have managed to talk about economic concepts in a fun and entertaining way.

However, today I would like to share a personal topic and about the moment that the future will change. I have been teaching at the university level for more than 10 years, more than 500 young people from the Faculty of Communication have passed through my classrooms.

The truth is, I always learn more from my students than they do from me, in particular because I have long understood that boys no longer love the traditional figure of the teacher, but are looking for a leader or mentor to support them in generating new knowledge. .

When the pandemic started, he grabbed all of us with his fingers at the door. That weekend in March 2020, I was at the Banking Convention with a very high level of stress and uncertainty about what was to come. When I returned to the office on Tuesday, everyone saw me as a freak and from that moment I started the home office modality, but I also started the virtual classes with the tools I had, but with the commitment to finish the course well .

I must acknowledge the great work of my students since, together, we have managed to get three semesters remotely. There are many anecdotes that I could talk about, because of how difficult it is for everyone to maintain the rhythm, encouragement and enthusiasm to continue learning in the best possible way. Personally, it is a commitment of honor not to lower the quality of the class, especially for what it represents the responsibility of being in charge of a group of boys who have been the most affected by the pandemic.

Throughout this period, we have heard a lot about the vaccination process and, to be honest, due to the slow pace in our country and my age range (30-40 years), I had already made up my mind to go to the United States. . What would be my surprise when I received an email from Human Capital of the Universidad Anáhuac Campus Sur, in which I urgently had to fill out a questionnaire to be considered for the vaccine because I was a professor. Skeptical, I completed the form and submitted it.

In less than a month, I consulted the website of the Government of Mexico City and it already appeared as registered, it was a matter of waiting and even so I was still incredulous that that day could come. Messages began to arrive in the teachers’ WhatsApp chat, so I checked again and I already had an appointment for Friday the 21st at 10:00 am at the ITAM campus Santa Teresa.

The day came and my dad kindly took me. As meticulous as I am, the day before I had already gone to see well where I was to get to the appointment safely, and I had the completed form and my official identification ready. I crossed the road to Santa Teresa and all the personnel of the Roadrunner Brigade gave us an impressive attention and service attitude, throughout the various filters.

First, they review your papers and give you a token to enter, the staff who assist you denote joy and a big smile, which is still noticeable with the mask. After the sanitary filter, you are taken to the registration table, which I quickly went through to take the completed form. Soon, I felt the emotion of living the moment that will change the future.

They passed me to a row of 10 chairs and then to one of the vaccination tables, in which they have everything from 10 to 10 to inoculate (as they say in the news) and from 20 to 20 to take advantage of a bottle of the much coveted biological ( as the reporters also mention). Health personnel from various entities, City Government and Federal, make up teams to explain the benefits and procedure of the vaccine, which in my case was CanSino, as well as open it in the presence of everyone.

During the seconds that the journey from the chairs to the tables lasted, I personally felt great emotion and joy. I know that it could be unfair to overtake other people in this process due to the strategy that is being followed, but I came because I was called up for being a teacher. Those moments I think that few will be able to tell me that you do not feel relief, because it is a sign of the beginning of the end of the pandemic.

After the explanation, they carry out the vaccination and, to avoid speculation or doubts, they show you the new syringe filled with the drug. I have always been curious when they inject me, so without hesitation I observed the maneuver, an instant that I can describe as magical. Later they took me to the observation area, where the orchestra (I think it was the ITAM’s) performed some pieces while waiting for possible reactions to the vaccine. At the same time they offered you tests for prostate antigen (age I have not yet reached) and glucose, which I took advantage of.

About 45 minutes or less was what the whole process took. I entered with high expectations and left with each and every one of them surpassed by the excellent organization, the speed of the process and, above all, with a renewed hope that soon we will all be able to be together within a new reality that will undoubtedly mark to several generations.

This leaves me with two reflections: we can take advantage of this situation to be better human beings by valuing what is really important and, in Mexico, we manage to do things well, without polarization, working shoulder to shoulder for the common good. Hopefully, in both cases, these attitudes are here to stay.
