William Maloney was appointed as the World Bank’s new Chief Economist for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Maloney will be in charge of guiding the strategic priorities and technical quality of the region’s economic analyzes, as well as preparing the economic studies, the World Bank said in a statement Thursday.

“Latin America and the Caribbean are facing unprecedented challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and it is a great honor for me to have the opportunity to lead a team dedicated to finding solutions that will help the region embark on a trajectory of further growth. dynamic and inclusive ”, said the new regional director.

William Maloney is originally from the United States, he came to the World Bank in 1998 as a senior economist for Latin America and the Caribbean; He held positions as Principal Economist in the Office of the Chief Economist for Latin America, Principal Economist in the Development Economics Research Group, Chief Economist for Trade and Competitiveness, and world expert on the subject of Innovation and Productivity.
