There are more germs in the computer mouse than in the toilet

We are becoming more and more aware of how important it is to have proper hygiene, especially in common areas, including offices or company workplaces. Now, new research by professional cleaning supplies brand Chicopee has revealed the worst germ hot spots in Britain’s offices, and the results are not at all pleasant to read.

What are the danger zones that harbor the most germs and bacteria?

The company’s experts examined the “touch points” of the offices for bacteria, yeasts and molds , known as colony-forming units.

The worst area in the entire office, the place with the most bacteria and germs, was the computer mouse, with 11 times more colony-forming units than even the toilet bowl. Outside the desk, they discovered that the kitchen was also home to a large number of germs.

Since the coronavirus pandemic began, the sanitizing gel or hydroalcoholic gel has also become an indispensable tool, both to carry around and to use often at work. As it turns out, experts found that the bottles or jars of hydroalcoholic gel contained high levels of mold spores.

Top 10 areas with the most germs in the office:

  1. PC mouse (580 colony forming units combined)
  2. Kettle / Kettle (336.6 colony forming units combined)
  3. Refrigerator (295 colony forming units combined)
  4. Laptop (264.8 colony forming units combined)
  5. Toilet lock (188 colony forming units combined)
  6. Hydroalcoholic hand gel (175.5 colony-forming units combined)
  7. Printer (100.5 colony forming units combined)
  8. Light switch (99 colony forming units combined)
  9. Desk phone (96.5 colony forming units combined)
  10. Kitchen Cabinet (67.9 Colony Forming Units Combined)

Interestingly, the toilet doesn’t even appear in the top ten for most germs.
