In recent years, the Ducati have suffered on those circuits where an agile motorcycle is required. The Desmosedici dragged, in that sense, understeer problems.
However, the Ducati have been able to overcome this problem, and the twisty tracks are no longer a disadvantage. In addition, in parallel, they continue to be the reference in those routes that reward the most powerful mounts.
Thus, in 2022 Ducati has won on circuits that traditionally did not favor them, such as Assen, Jerez or the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. Likewise, the Italian brand took its home GP, winning at Mugello.
The Ducati stands, therefore, as one of the most complete motorcycles in MotoGP. That is why Miller no longer focuses the grand prix based on whether it is a circuit that favors them or not.
“I think the ‘Ducati circuits’ are a thing of the past,” he declared.
“Historically speaking, Mugello and Barcelona weren’t among the tracks I was best at. Sachsenring has always been one of my favourites, and I liked Assen a lot too.”
“The case of Sachsenring was similar [to that of Mugello or Barcelona]; in the past we suffered a lot but this year we have that extra that, as long as the driver adapts to the track, allows us to be in front. And that’s what happened in Sachsenring, where I finished third.”
One week before the start of the second half of the course, Ducati leads the MotoGP constructors’ standings , with an advantage of 74 points over Yamaha.
However, Pecco Bagnaia’s first half of the season was rather uneven, putting him 66 points behind leader Fabio Quartararo, reigning world champion. In fact, the first Ducati in the general classification of riders is that of Johann Zarco, third, 58 points behind his compatriot.
Ducati is expected to announce in the coming weeks who will take Miller’s place on the factory team, following the Australian’s departure for KTM.
Both Jorge Martín and Enea Bastianini have renewed their respective contracts with Ducati. The one chosen to go up to the official team will be one of them, while the other will be relegated to Pramac.
Who is already known to stay at Pramac for 2023 is Zarco, while Alex Márquez leaves LCR Honda to join Fabio Di Giannantonio at Gresini (both with old Desmosedicis).
