There is no "plan B" at Aston Martin if Vettel does not renew for F1 2023

Aston Martin boss Mike Krack is still awaiting Sebastian Vettel’s decision regarding his future but is counting on the veteran German driver to renew his contract, which runs out at the end of the current season.

The desire of the Silverstone team is no secret, but the four-time world champion has decided to put all his options on the table and calmly review them to make the best decision for his future.

Vettel needs to take a number of things into account, the first of which is whether he wants to continue in Formula 1, which in turn could also be based on whether Aston Martin is able to give him a car he can be happy with.

If he decides to continue in motorsport’s top flight, the German not only has to consider the seat he currently occupies, but it has also been rumored that he could replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren, which could mean a jump up the standings.

However, the Australian driver has assured that, at least, he will fulfill the year and a half of his remaining contract, so the vacancy would vanish. As for the rest of the seats without a confirmed driver, it would not be very realistic to think that someone like Vettel would go to AlphaTauri, Alfa Romeo, Haas or Williams.

The four-time champion may not be clear about it, but Aston Martin is. Krack clearly bets on his permanence, but also assures that there will be no news of any contract before the summer holidays.

“We have a very good relationship with Sebastian [Vettel], that’s why we haven’t set a deadline,” Krack explained to Sport1 . “He knows what we want. He knows we really want to continue with him.”

“At some point a decision will have to be made. However, I don’t have the impression that he is trying to delay the situation. I think that after the summer break is the time when more concrete can and should be done.”

“We don’t have a plan B. We are not talking to any other drivers at the moment, because we want Sebastian to stay with us,” the Aston Martin manager concluded.
