Jakob Pietschnig and his colleagues have reached this conclusion after analyzing more than thirty studies involving nearly three thousand people, without finding any evidence that this music influenced, at least, the capacity for spatial representation.
Since the American psychologist Frances Rauscher announced in 1993 that the Austrian composer's compositions improved IQ, many families have made efforts to have their children, even before birth, listen to Mozart music. However, the new study seems to confirm that the so-called "Mozart effect" is just an urban legend . "I recommend that everyone listen to Mozart's music, but the hope that it will increase their cognitive abilities is in vain," said Pietschnig.
