The snow is melting, the days are getting longer, and the temperature is getting warmer, it can only mean that spring is here in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

  • Splash puddles with your kids.
  • Go Skiing or Snowboarding for Cheap – Local ski hills generally lower lift ticket prices at the end of the season until their snow finally melts.
  • See one of the more than 170 independent films in Minneapolis-St. Paul Independent Film Festival, held in April.
  • Go maple syrup.
  • Attend a Minnesota Fashion Week show, party, or boutique event, usually the second week of April.
  • Go to a St. Patrick’s Day parade, or a marquee party in an Irish pub or bar on March 17
  • Take your kids on an Easter egg hunt.
  • Get a car wash and remove the salt and dirt from your car.
  • Celebrate Earth Day at a fair, festival, or help clean up a local park at an Earth Day cleanup event. Earth Day is April 22nd, Earth Day events take place on the closest weekends.
  • Wear shorts.
  • Take a hike and look for signs of spring: birdsong, green shoots, creeks and streams.
  • Yard sale season is here – spring clean your house and have your own yard sale, or go bargain shopping.
  • Visit Farm Babies every April at the Minnesota Zoo – fluffy chicks and little lambs!
  • It is warm enough to wear a kilt! Attend or attend the annual Minnesota Tartan Day celebration at the Minnesota State Capitol. Around April 9.
  • I appreciate the lack of mosquitoes… the peace won’t last long.
  • Admire Minnehaha Falls – The falls are strongest in the spring with melting snow from the snow.
  • Dress up as the Borg or Princess Leia at Minicon, the oldest sci-fi convention in the Midwest. Easter week.
  • Head to the North Shore and go hunting for agates – the winter storms have likely washed a lot of agates from Lake Superior onto the beaches.
