This is how you can receive Zoom calls through your TV

The online commerce giant Amazon just launched its own televisions under the Fire TV brand just a few weeks ago, and with attractively low price ranges for fairly large 4K screens. It is true that through the network, many users have expressed their discontent because the resolution was not exactly what they expected .

You can now make group video calls through television

But, even so, the main novelty of this television is that video calls can be made using the popular Zoom application, something that Amazon had already promised, and that will allow users to chat and make group calls with family and friends, or attend meetings with co-workers. Although until now Amazon has assured that Zoom for television would be available without a specific date, as of December 7, Amazon has managed to implement it, and many have already been able to make video calls on the key dates of the Christmas celebrations.

Of course, these TV models do not include a camera built into the hardware. As Amazon explains in a post on its own official blog, you’ll need a compatible USB webcam for it to work, one with a minimum resolution of 720p or 1080p, and the company only specifically recommends the Logitech C920, C922x, and C310 models, and the puts as examples (of course, these models are available to buy through the Amazon website).

But even if you have a good microphone on that webcam or a set of great speakers, you won’t be able to use them either: Amazon notes that the Zoom app will use the default microphone and speakers on the TV, though it has opened the door for that to happen. In the future, this will also change and they can be synchronized with those of Alexa , for example, or with external ones.

That said, the inclusion of Zoom on TVs seems like a very easy way to make video calls with family and friends compared to the mess and hassle it sometimes becomes to do it from your laptop, where you have to share screens, adjust the webcam, pray that the HDMI cable works, and be aware that the PC does not run out of battery in the middle of the meeting and you have to go find the charger and plug it in. Amazon has also specified that it is not necessary to enter the Amazon app store to search for Zoom and then download it, but simply say out loud: “Alexa, find Zoom” and the assistant will open the application without any problem. .

Amazon also added the Zoom app to its second-gen Fire TV Cube last July, though not to the first-gen Cube. However, their Fire TV Sticks do not have a USB port to connect a webcam, so it would not do any good if they had the application installed by default since, in any case, you would not be able to use it.
