Lexus has completely reinvented the large RX luxury SUV, building on the model’s rich heritage and pushing new frontiers in design and technology to increase its capabilities and appeal to an even broader customer base. In 1998, the original RX model launched the luxury SUV market segment. Since then, it has continued to evolve, becoming the first premium-market electrified model with the launch of the RX 400h in 2005. Today, it is firmly established as a staple model for Lexus worldwide , with 3.5 million sales, 300,000 of which in Europe. The new fifth-generation model will reinforce that profile, as well as Lexus’ reputation for design and technological excellence.

Koji Sato , president of Lexus International, stated that “for the new RX we were determined to retain the Lexus DNA of superior quality, ride comfort and refinement, and take the driving experience to the next level, delivering a unique Lexus signature drive.” Along with the recent launch of the NX and the upcoming electric RZ model, the RX will help write the ‘Next Chapter’ for the Lexus brand. These three models will give the company the most comprehensive coverage to date of the D/E premium SUV market, at the core of the Lexus offering.

Lexus has developed its new ‘Next Chapter’ design language for the new RX, which includes a ‘double-arrowhead body’, resulting from integrating the signature double-arrowhead grille concept across the front of the vehicle. The RX team also drew from the model’s rich design heritage to produce a vehicle instantly recognizable as an RX, but with a more dynamic, stylish and confident character. Inside, the driver-focused Tazuna cockpit aims to give the driver direct and intuitive control over the vehicle, following the ‘hands on the wheel, eyes on the road’ principle.
