This is the grid of the Austrian sprint race after the sanction against Pérez

0

After qualifying for the 2022 F1 Austrian GP held this Friday, the starting grid for Saturday’s sprint race was defined, which will be held over 24 laps at the Red Bull Ring.

Pole position went to Verstappen, though that doesn’t guarantee him starting first in Sunday’s feature race, as that order will be decided by Saturday’s sprint race. A short test (100 kilometers) in which the top eight classified will score, unlike what happened in 2021, when only three scored. Sergio Pérez received a penalty several hours after qualifying and dropped from fourth to thirteenth place.

We remind you that any penalties for this weekend that are not related to qualifying are applied after the sprint race for the starting grid of the main race on Sunday. Thus, after changing several elements in his power unit, Bottas will start last on Sunday whatever it is on Saturday. In fact, in the sprint race he will start 12th after qualifying on Friday, but on Saturday he will only be eligible for points if he finishes in the top eight, not for a good starting position.

And with this grid, who will become the fifth sprint race winner in F1 history? So far, Verstappen has won the first (Silverstone 2021), Bottas the second (Monza 2021), and Bottas repeated in the third (Interlagos 2021). In this 2022, in the only disputed to date (Imola) Verstappen prevailed. They are triumphs, however, that do not count in the victory statistics of each driver.
