The processes would be evaluated internally, it was said on Saturday by the airport company and the federal police. “Of course everyone has an interest in ensuring that this does not happen next time,” said an airport spokesman.
In the terminal on Friday several thousand passengers had to wait for several thousand passengers after a fire alarm, and flights were sometimes canceled. A fire alarm in a toilet had triggered an alarm. After the security area had been cleared, checked departures mixed with unchecked arrivals. This was a mistake, said an airport spokesman.
The departing people then had to go through the security check a second time. However, this was initially closed for a good two hours on the busy Friday afternoon because the security area had to be searched for suspicious objects after the evacuation.
Why the fire alarm went off cannot be said yet, said a federal police spokesman. The cause research is still ongoing. Furthermore, it cannot be ruled out that cigarette smoke could have led to the alarm. There had already been handling difficulties at BER during the autumn break. dpa
