Again shots were fired at a school in the USA and young people died again. The alleged perpetrator is said to have been to high school himself and attended tenth grade.

Washington – A 15-year-old allegedly opened fire at his high school in Oxford, Michigan, killing at least three of his classmates.

Seven other students and a teacher were shot injured in the incident on Tuesday, the Oakland sheriff’s office said.

The alleged perpetrator is a 15-year-old tenth grader from Oxford High School north of the metropolis of Detroit. He was arrested and taken into juvenile detention. The police had confiscated a handgun. The dead were a 16-year-old, a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old.

A police spokesman said the alleged perpetrator refused to testify, so his motive was unclear. His parents hired a lawyer. It is unclear whether the shooter targeted his victims.

15-20 shots

The suspect was caught within five minutes of the first emergency call, which was received at 12:51 p.m. (local time / 6:51 p.m. CET). He did not offer any resistance. Before that, he fired 15 to 20 shots. Of the eight injured, two would have to be operated on. The high school is attended by around 1,800 students.

Fatal incidents continue to occur in the United States because shooters open fire in schools. Firearms are relatively easy to come by in the United States. Stricter gun laws usually fail because of the Republicans in Congress and the powerful gun lobby. US President Joe Biden has announced measures to curb armed violence, but so far without concrete results.

Sympathy from Biden and Whitmer

Biden expressed his condolences to the families of the victims at Oxford High School. “My thoughts go with the families who have endured the unimaginable pain of losing a loved one,” he said during a visit to Minnesota. Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer called the act “terrible”.

She said: “We have a responsibility to do everything possible to protect one another and we have the means to reduce gun violence. Nobody should be afraid to go to school, to work, to a church or even to their own house. ”Dpa
