Tips on buying a new perfume

0

Are you looking for a new perfume in retail, but then it somehow works differently in everyday life? This is due to the so-called heart note and maybe also to your own fragrance.

Berlin – The scent of a perfume or eau de toilet is not immediately perceived in its entirety. Therefore you should take your time when buying a new product.

Tip 1: Sniff it again at a distance

A perfume is made up of several so-called notes. When testing, the first thing you notice is the top note. More important, however, is the heart note, which only shows up more clearly later, but can then even be perceived for a few hours. And it forms the actual character of the perfume.

In order to be able to best judge this heart note, one should therefore let some time pass between test and purchase, advises the portal Haut.de.

By the way: Perfumes are made up of three notes. The third is the base note with long-lasting and heavy components that are also only noticed after a few minutes.

Tip 2: Allow time to pass between two fragrances

If you sniff too many scents too quickly, your nose will only perceive them to a limited extent or not at all. Therefore, one should test a maximum of five to six perfumes one after the other, advises Haut.de. If the scents are very similar, the sense of smell will tire even after two or three samples. The same applies to smelling heavy fragrances. Therefore, another piece of advice is: Always start with the lighter fragrances.

Tip 3: try it yourself

You should always test perfumes, eau de parfums or eau de toilettes yourself and not on a test strip, but on the skin. Because how a scent develops on the skin and whether you really like it can only be seen in the interplay with its own odor, which differs from person to person.

By the way: Behind the different terms there is a different composition of the fragrances. A product declared as a perfume contains an average of 20 to 40 percent fragrances, in eau de parfum it is 10 to 20 percent. Eau de toilette contains 8 to 10 percent fragrances, Eau de Cologne only 3 to 8 percent. In general, you need less of a perfume with a higher concentration of fragrance. dpa
