Coming from the Ferrari young driver academy, Mick Schumacher arrived in Formula 1 in 2021, so in 2022 the German driver is in his second consecutive year in the highest category of motorsport.
So far, Mick Schumacher has failed to score his first point, largely due to Haas F1 Team’s poor performance throughout the 2021 season.
However, the results of the German driver far exceeded those achieved by Nikita Mazepin, his partner until several months ago. In qualifying, Mick Schumacher beat the Russian driver 13-3, while in the race the difference was even more overwhelming; 20-0.
This season, with a much more experienced driver in the form of Kevin Magnussen in the garage next door, the German has yet to find his rhythm. In addition, Haas has taken an important step forward and that has caused Mick Schumacher to begin to experience the sensations of fighting against other rivals, something that did not happen in 2021.
Looking back, Mattia Binotto , director of Ferrari, recognized that the objective of the structure was that Mick Schumacher could one day drive for the Maranello team, a team with which his father, Michael Schumacher, wrote his name with letters golden in F1.
Speaking about it, AlphaTauri director Franz Tost acknowledged that such a move is still rushed: “He still needs to race for some team other than Ferrari for another three years, with F1 today everything is incredibly difficult,” he told F1-Insider .
“The drivers need at least three years to learn how to express their speed and reach their maximum level. George Russell and Charles Leclerc also needed that time. Mick has the skills to sign for Ferrari, but first he has to focus on himself and beat Kevin Magnussen and succeed with Haas . That is his main task right now.”
It should be remembered that Charles Leclerc ‘s contract does not end until the end of 2024, while Carlos Sainz Jr’s, according to the latest rumours, could be extended until 2023 or 2024 within a few weeks or months.
