The railway lines go directly between Rome and Foggia, Pescara and Ancona on the east coast. A major rail line runs along the east coast and there are connections from all three cities. Foggia is best for those traveling further south along the east coast, while Ancona is best for those traveling north.

Trains to Foggia: the Frecciargento high – speed trains from Rome Termini station (main train station) to Foggia takes less than 3 hours, while the InterCity (IC) train takes 4 1/2 hours. At the time of writing, there are 4 direct trains daily, the first leaving Rome at 8:05.
Ancona trains: trains from Rome Termini Station to Ancona takes about 3 hours in a Inter City train more than 4 hours on a regional train. At the time of writing, there are 8 direct trains with the first train leaving Rome at 5:45. You can also take a train from Roma Tiburtina station to Pescara and change trains to get to Ancona.
Pescara trains: trains for regional stations Pescara Centrale and Porta Nuova leave the station Tiburtina (not Termini) and take 4 to 5 hours. At the time of writing, there are 6 daily trains with the first direct train leaving Roma Tiburtina at 7:42.
How to get to the east coast of Italy by car
To get from Rome to Foggia or Bari and pointing south, take the A1 motorway towards Naples, then the A16 towards the east coast. To drive to Pescara, take the A24 and connect to the A25. To get to Ancona, continue on the A24 towards the coast and connect with the A14 north.
The A14 autostrada runs along the east coast between Taranto in the south and Bologna in the north.
