A sailing boat capsized between the North Sea islands of Langeoog and Baltrum. Two of the three sailors can be brought to safety with a rescue helicopter.

Langeoog – After their boat sank, two young sailors were rescued from the North Sea by a naval helicopter. A man who was with them was still missing on Friday morning.

The three sailors, aged about 20, capsized on Thursday evening with their boat between the islands of Baltrum and Langeoog, as announced by the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People.

A Navy rescue helicopter encountered the young woman at 9:30 p.m. and one of the two men half an hour later. The two were pulled up with a winch and flown to the hospital. According to a spokeswoman for the rescue company, the rescued were hypothermic.

The sailors involved in the accident had initially called the Ostfriesland rescue control center, but the emergency call was difficult to understand. After a cell phone location, several rescue ships and rescue helicopters left for a position on the two islands. Extremely heavy seas with waves up to four meters made the search difficult, according to the rescue company. dpa
