UN finds Palestinian attack tunnel under one of its schools in Gaza

The United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA) has reported that last month it found an attack tunnel under one of its schools in Gaza used by the Palestinian military.

The school is administered by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency and is exclusively for barons. It was precisely one of the two facilities of the organization damaged during the last conflict in Gaza that lasted 11 days and ended on May 21.

It was just at the end of May that UNRWA found what “appears to be a cavity and a possible missile attack tunnel.” This is how the organization reported the finding in a statement: “The depth of the cavity is approximately 7.5 meters below the surface of the school. UNRWA discovered the existence of a possible tunnel in the context of investigating a fired missile. ‘

The UN body has wanted to make it clear that “there are no indications of the existence of entry or exit points of the tunnel within the facilities” of the school. Still, UNRWA has strongly condemned the Palestinians building the dangerous tunnel under a school for children.

“UNRWA condemns the existence and potential use by Palestinian armed groups of such tunnels under their schools in the strongest possible terms. It is unacceptable that students and staff are put at risk in this way, “defended the organization.

In addition, UNRWA wanted to show its rejection of the activity of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) because the school is a refuge and should be immune to attacks : “The agency’s facilities, like all United Nations facilities , are marked as such and sport a UN flag on the roof. UNRWA regularly shares the coordinates of all its facilities with the relevant Israeli authorities and, in times of conflict, the coordinates of designated emergency shelters are shared on a daily basis. ‘

The organization denounces that the actions of the Palestinian terrorist groups and the IDF violate the “inviolability and neutrality” of UNRWA, which must be respected at all times: “UNRWA demands that all parties desist from any activity or conduct that puts in risk to beneficiaries and staff and undermine the ability of UNRWA staff to provide assistance to Palestinian refugees safely.
