Vaccination: This is how people react to the third spade against the coronavirus

0

A third vaccination against the coronavirus has been possible for certain groups of people for a few weeks. So far, however, little was known about the reactions to the booster vaccination.

USA – The vaccination rate for people who have been vaccinated twice in Germany is officially around 75 percent. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) even suspects that the value is even higher – at an estimated 80 percent *. Vaccination is an effective and important tool in combating the corona pandemic *.

Some groups of people have been able to have the so-called booster vaccination since September. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has now also approved the vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna for those with severely weakened immune systems for the booster.

Coronavirus: New findings on booster vaccination

The third-party vaccinations are controversial among experts, as there is still no data on effectiveness and side effects. This is now changing with a study published by the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The approximately 22,191 voluntary participants were able to enter physical reactions and side effects after the vaccination in the “V-Safe” app. The scientists then evaluated this huge amount of data.

A third vaccination against the coronavirus is possible.

Coronavirus: The most common reactions to the booster vaccination

79.4 percent and 74.1 percent of the participants who received a third vaccination with the same mRNA vaccine as before said they had felt local or systemic reactions. For comparison: After the second vaccination, 77.6 percent and 76.5 percent gave this information. This means that the third vaccination does not differ significantly from the second. Over 90 percent also said they had reacted mildly or moderately to the spades. Only 6.7 percent reported severe pain.

The participants most frequently reported the following symptoms after the booster vaccination:

  • Injection site pain (71 percent)
  • Fatigue (56 percent)
  • Headache (43.4 percent)

Coronavirus study: the third vaccination similar to the second

So the results of the American study show that the side effects of the booster vaccination are not as bad as might be expected. They are similar to those after the second vaccination. According to focus.de, around 800,000 people in Germany received their third vaccination, including those in need of care, people with disabilities, people with immunodeficiency and seniors over the age of 80.

Carsten Watzl, immunologist at the Leibniz Institute for Labor Research at the Technical University of Dortmund, considers the booster vaccination to be useful, according to focus.de. Because of a larger number of memory cells, it could mean a longer-lasting immunization and, moreover, the vaccination protection would be strengthened by more antibodies. At the same time, however, Watzl also expressed criticism: “There is still a shortage of vaccines around the world. More people die as a result of this than would be saved in this country by a third vaccination ”.

However, if you decide not to be vaccinated at all, you will have to pay for the corona tests * from October 11th. * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
