Valencia recovers the 2022 MotoGP end-of-season tests

On the eve of the Spanish Grand Prix, the MotoGP Grand Prix Commission has announced the first changes for the 2023 season and, this time, the tests are the focus of these modifications. Due to the high number of races on the calendar, Dorna and IRTA, in agreement with Michelin , have decided to reduce some test days within the season, from three to two sessions.

Last year, after finishing the last race of the year, MotoGP moved to Jerez to carry out its two days of preparation tests for the following season. With this new proposal, Valencia will once again be the emblematic setting for the end-of-season tests, as was the case until 2019.

In this new update, the winter program does not change: MotoGP will have its usual three days of shakedown, dedicated to test riders and rookies, which will be followed by three days of official tests with the presence of all the regular riders.

The biggest update is for the current season, as the championship will change from three to two one-day test sessions taking place on the Monday or Tuesday after each grand prix. The dates and circuits will be established by the teams together with Dorna and IRTA.

In this way, in 2022 three test sessions are planned, the first in Jerez , next Monday, the second in Barcelona and the third in Misano, both after their race weekends.

Finally, MotoGP is also committed to the environment: the decision of the Grand Prix Commission also confirms the obligation for all categories to use a fuel with a minimum of 40% of non-fossil origin from 2024. This percentage will increase until 100% from 2027.

For the time being, the world championship paddock is preparing to compete in its sixth round at the Andalusian track in Jerez, venue for the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend.
