Despite the difficult start to the Red Bull team’s 2022 season, Max Verstappen has been crowned champion for the second time in a row and with a big lead, just as the Milton Keynes team has won its fifth constructors’ title, the first since 2013.

Last year he already marked his dominance at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, when he managed to dethrone the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, something that has marked his career and was decisive at the time of starting this 2022 season.

The young Dutch driver has tied the record held by legends like Michael Schumacher or Sebastian Vettel for 13 wins in a single year (with another three to go). Asked what he still has to prove, Verstappen replied: “It’s not about what’s left to prove, it’s more about learning from the car, which we can apply next year.”

“Of course we will try to win the last few races, but that comes naturally if the car is in good shape. Luckily it was good enough again in Austin.”

Also emphasizing his winning record, Max called this year “pretty incredible” , especially considering that start to the season when he had to retire in two of the first three races.

“At the beginning of the year I think we were in a bit more difficult place, especially Australia was a very bad weekend for us,” said the Dutchman.

“The team changed the car, it became much more competitive and reliable, and that was certainly very important in changing our course.”

“When you look back at how the season has been so far, what we’ve done as a team has been pretty incredible,” he stressed.

Currently Red Bull is on a streak of eight consecutive victories, and there are still to be played this Grand Prix of Mexico and the appointments in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
